Default Aftermarket Alternator/ Does The stock plug need to be hooked up at all?

Aftermarket Alternator/ Does The stock plug need to be hooked up at all?

It appears the car is trying to compensate in some sort of way with the idle for the voltage.
i currently have an aftermarket alternator installed in my CRX 89 DX 1.5 liter... it is externallly regulated so the stock alty plug is just laying there not hooked up to anyhting...

The engine is acting funny by quickly reving up and down causing lights to dim. brighten quickly.

I heard that the stock plug has to be maniputlated in some way in order for the computer to think its controlling the voltage... or something... either way...

I checked the plug last night... there are
2 vertical pins and 2 horizontal pins below the vertical pins...

The 2 vertical pins are remote hot lines giving the battery voltage.
the bottom left horizontal pin is a ground
The botomm right horizontal pin appears to be the field line giving 4.5-4.6 volts.

Help anyone? I leave tomorrow going on a 600 mile trip with the car...

PS! The Grounds ARE ALL GOOD.... i over freaking grounded the car...

I would PERSONALLY run the OEM regulator. Not a fan of aftermarket ones that make the alternator SCREAM to its limits.
