someone is gonna have to elaborate on this for me, but here's my understanding:
if you drop the vacuum hose on the top of the intake manifold (while the car is running) and you hear a humm or buzz i believe you had the 2ndaries the whole time...

umm... You should hear them when they open up.. right about 6,000 they should be hella loud. If you cant hear them your either one big dumb ***(if they are working and you cant tell a difference) or they arnt working.
well i know the 1st one opens up but i can't hear or feel if the secondaries opens, i have a stripped hatch with a test pipe so it gets kinda loud.

what?
do you want to know about VTEC or the IAB?!?!
t..
It should be a huge change in the sound... You should know if they are working.. it gets HELLA loud.. especially with that test pipe.. It goes from brrrrrrrrr to BRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!
put a vaccum gage on that vaccum line, at idle, it should read about 25 and after they kick in, it is supposed to go to 0. i've never done this though and i don't know if the car has to be in gear (moving) for them to switch. can anyone verify? i know that vtec will not engage unless the car is moving, not sure about IAB. this is just what i have heard.

A simple way to tell if they are working is if you redline at 8000. If you do then they are working.
no dude sorry
secondaries have NOTHING to do with the redline.

vtec has NOTHING to do with the rev limit
you can run vtecless and sit there bouncing off 8400rpm's
of course you dont make power past like 5000 tho
2ndarys open up at 5750 or so
just put the car in neutral and rev to 6,000rpms the line should close up....
as for why a 4dr GS-R kept up, check your timing all around....as torque loss without the 2ndarys is minimal, if even.
