Oil around distributor area
I have a 2001 Accord EX, 4 cyl, 5 speed, 200K +. Noticed some oil residue around the distributor, mainly underneath and on that side of the engine, no other oil found around the engine.
Any ideas on what it could be and an easy fix or not?
Thanks for any help.

its an easy fix.. there is an o ring that is on the distributor where it slides into the head.. the o ring keeps oil from the head from leaking out..
it sounds like your o ring has been worn out...
~$1.50 part from honda

thats good to know. I have the same problem and read the DIY for the replacement, but when I went to get one of those o rings, the auto part store had no knowledge of them. but there is a local honda dealer.
sounds easy enough, will have to wait until Tuesday though, Honda Dealer here is pretty helpful with parts.
Stupid question of the day (I am just a novice "mechanic"), do I have to drain the oil before replacing that O-ring? or can I just remove the dist., replace and put it back on?

I have a similar problem but I am unsure what O-Ring to use...
How many different distributors came on these cars? I was under the impression it was 2, Tec and Hitachi, but when looking for a replacement cap and rotor, I couldnt find it anywhere in the US (dealer included) for my particular distributor, hence my concern that I will never find the right O-Ring
Help will be appreciated!

Harbor Freight sells an o-ring "kit".... It comes with many sizes.... i had a kit laying around and it so happened to have the right sized for my dizzy o-ring. Try it out
Sometimes I use tasauto.com, all they do is 1990-2002 Accord parts. They have distributor caps, rotors and O-rings. O-rings are only $1.83, cost more to ship lol but if you need a couple other parts it'll be ok. I've used they're "tune up in a box kit" (dist cap, rotor, pvc valve, plug wires and plugs, air filter) it worked out pretty good. If it's time to replace the dist cap/rotor would probably be a good time to order.

Just to note the differences with my dsit, didnt all the non-vtec models come with an external coil? Mine has it internal but its non-vtec... also, cannot find that dist cap anywhere..
If I can't replace the cap and rotor because I cant find the parts, can I clean it or refurb it in any way when I have the dist off to change the O-ring?
