speedometer, temp gauge, vtec problems.

speedometer, temp gauge, vtec problems.
wsup... new top the forum. my girl just picked up a 97 lude and after about a week, her speedo stopped working and her vtec quit engaging and it only revs up to 6500rpm(the tach still works.). i figure it is the vss. (dont have one yet but i ordered one off ebay should be here soon.)
anyways, a week later, the temp gauge stopped working. i thought i'd bring it to stupid honda hoping they'd tell me something i dont know but them fu ckers told me i need a new vss(what a surprise) and that the temp gauge is connected to the vss. oh and the service "manager" also told me that it was the wheel speed sensor and the "cable" snapped.. which from my understanding the only sensor on the wheel is the abs sensor which doesnt tie into the speedo (i ordered the sensor on the tranny). they scratched my front lip, charged me 75 bucks and sent me on my way. (obviously this guy doesnt know jack.. his name was even jack too... a$$hole dumba$$es.
1: anyways, my question is this, does the CEL supposed to stay lit?? ever since the speedo stopped working the CEL would illuminate for a couple seconds and then turn off, and in a couple minutes turn back on again.
2: and another question. could my thermostat just need replacing to fix the gauge problem??
