Default harness question

So I have a 1997 Civic DX 5speed(which means I don't have power steering etc all that complicating stuff blah blah blah).. I blew the motor and swapped a OBD1 JDM D15B(my dad bought it because it was the cheapest so don't ask why) from osakajdmmotors.. So it comes with cut harness and no ECU with it.. it got it running with OBD2A harness I did all that IAVC conversions etc etc etc.. so basically runs but harness is really f***d-up in between the wires and plugs near the ECU. and theres now way to fix it so i wanna basically buy a new harness..
-I wanna stay OBD2 so i can pass smog and have no CEL
-I think I have a OBD2A GSR computer but not sure I got it from a friend for free but I might be planning on buying a new DEPENDS(i know how to read the ecus i just don't have it with me to tell u what kind)
-wanna plug in VTEC also

my questions:

-should i stay with obd2a or can i get a obd2b harness with obd2b ecu?
-can you use a automatic wiring harness? lets say an auto EX
-ANY SUGGESTIONS AND COMMENTS?

You'll want to get a '96-'98 harness from a manual transmission car. As well as get a P2P ECU, from a '96-'98 Civic EX (manual of course). That will be the easiest route to go.

understandable i know what your saying ive looked it up millions of times.. but your not getting what im trying to say..

-so would an automatic obd2a harness work with a manual obd2a ecu on a obd1 jdm motor??

- from what i know the only difference in the automatic harness is the other clip attached to ecu..

this is automatic obd2a (as u can see u plug all of them in)

this is manual obd2a (in this one all you need is three)

No. CivicSpoon has it right. Get a 96-98 (obd2a) EX (vtec) harness (manual of course), and use the EX obd2a ECU with it. The plugs on the harness are all there, and will clip right into the ECU.

But because the d15 now in your car is an obd1 you will still need to change up the wiring. Some of the plugs are different between obd1 and obd2 as well as dizzy.

The engine won't run right with an auto p72 ecu if that's what you mean.

I hear the auto harness WILL NOT work. There is something about how some of the pins are in different locations compared to the manual harness. Thats why we both say you need to find a manual EX harness in order for it to work properly.
