distributor adjusting
by changing the position of the distributor my car became slugish(retard) than before, it used to take off good now its slugish. my mechanic adjusted by turning clockwise(retard).
when is recommended to replace the distributor rotor and cap?
adjusting the distributor for a better peformance is this accomplish or not possible ??

i can't recall if there is a point in the maintenance schedule for cap and rotor replacement, but i don't think there is. they aren't too expensive so if a visual inspection of them shows signs of wear, personally i would replace them.
adjusting it to the "right" timing will give you the best performance. by this i mean adjusting it to service sandards. you won't find 5hp advancing the timing on a computer controlled engine... if that's what you were hoping for.
***let me add that that's for a stock motor (stock internals, no forced induction). modified, dyno tuned cars can make more power with timing adjustments.
