LS-Vtec EM1 problems
b18b block, ctr pistons, gsr head. the car starts.. and runs okay but is super slow! d15 status. and it doesnt go past 4500-5000 like once it hits vtec its like the rev limiter. ive searched everywhere for the problems and on this forum 2. seeing if anyone has ran into this problem too
It could very well be the harness. Doesn't take much more than one bad wire connection to bring an engine to its knees. Define "sh#@ty"
You sure that ECU is good to go?
Usually when you see this its either:
1) Bad wiring
2) Bad ECU
3) Both

well im hoping its the jumper harness rather than the wiring harness. but im trying to get a p28 ecu and ditch the p72 though its a gsr head. i say bad jumper harness cuz when i went to go look at the ecu it had electric tape all over it where someone ****ed with it. stringing off. when the harnesses are good to go.. so i just ordered a new obd2b to obd1 jumper
Ah yeah, I know EXACTLY what you mean.
One of those "modified" wires may not been properly connected/soldered, as was the case with my friends jumper harness. It led to his car refusing to build boost.
Like I said, it only takes one wire. I know it can be a pain, but if you feel like it you should check those wires to see how they were modified.
Or you can just wait for that new harness. It would definitely be easier!

yes. im just hoping the car itself doesnt need a new full harness. i took out the sparkplugs and they were so ****ing corroded so ibought new ones. runs a little better. so im gonna go back and get wires and dizzy cap n ****. the motor is poorly maintained by the previous owner.

Good ideas.
Yeah, I do wish you luck on the rest of the harness. If the jumper is that bad, I don't want to think of the type of wiring that MIGHT have been done for the rest of the car.

thanks for the help. so i compression tested it and the first 2 were 70 so then i just stopped there and on my drive home the timing belt slipped off a little and dominated. so ill be pulling the motor and putting a b16 back in it
Wow... I was gonna recommend a compression test as well but I was afraid of the answer you might (well, now you did) get!
When you mentioned the poor maintenance, my first thought was "Oh no, they (prev owner) probably ran it til she was basically dead!"
Sucks you have to put the B16 back in, but hey, it could be worse!
Good luck.
