Hf smog
I'm thinking of picking up a HF here in Cali for $1400. Only problem is reg is out since last month and it would need smog. The car has 270k miles. Otherwise the car is very nice condition.. paint, interior, engine is pretty clean.
Supposedly it eats no oil or coolant.
I asked the seller to smog it but he said he'd rather not go through the hassle. It seemed a little suspicious but then again I am not sure. I'm just wondering if it's worth the money? He's been the owner for two years.. and last smog was in 07.
I know it's slightly agaisn't the rules to ask this, but I am just trying to understand how much I might have to spend to get this car to pass smog.. or at least a price range and a better sense of knowledge on the subject once I go out to check it out tomorrow.

These cars are really rare to run into locally.. I've seen some decent ones (/w paint starting to show aging) for like 2.5k+
He didn't seem interested in smogging it.. said he doesn't have money or time to do it...
idk.. I guess I'll just see how it runs.. and if it smokes bad.

Yeah I dunno. I been looking for a stock/clean ones but not really finding much. Looking specifically at HF models and they seem higher priced then others. And most HF's seem to be hundreds if not thousands of miles away.. and are usually not even as good condition. It's pretty close by, I'll be looking at it tomorrow.. paint/interior/engine look in really good condition. What should I look out for? The cheapest I found locally was a crx dx for $1,100.. but it had no interior, bad body work, misfiring engine.. and it wasn't even a HF.
Santa Rosa.
I been looking on CL and other sites for a month or two now. Most cars fall into either overpriced or too much work required categories. Seem to be pretty rare to run into decent/stock HFs around here.
I almost bought one 3 months ago off CL but buyer bailed and sold to someone else.
So idk.. what should I look for in this car when I go look at it? Besides how the engine/clutch feel.
And yea I'm leaning towards getting it.. just trying to make a list of things to look at once I see the car.

i wouldn't do it. let that guy pay for the smog first then do it. there is no guarantee that it will pass smog just because it was done about a year ago. since you say that he doesn't want to smog it before he sells it sounds shady to me. i bought my ek sedan a couple months ago and told the sellers that i aint gonna buy unless the car is smogged first and got what i wanted.
is this the crx you are talking about. you can get yourself a better crx like a si with that price.

haha cant beat 570
Yeah that's his asking price. I will try to lower it as much as possible. Like I said I'm looking for HF model more specifically. The record for this one is spotless.. I mean I'll check it out, if problems start popping up I'm just going to pass it up.
I seen some of those cars on CL. Some have never even emailed me back, others have problems I don't want to deal with.. stripped interior/salvage title/shitty body.

If this is THE car you want then tell him to smog it and you'll pay the smog fee if it passes.
He can sell you car without smog. Seller just needs to make it clear to you that it's sold 'AS IS' which is usually done by having you sign a simple paper that he writes up "I, XXX, hereby sell my car, XXX, to XXX on (date) in AS IS condition." If obvious problems are not made apparent to you then seller is liable for them even after sale. You can go after seller for smog repairs, broken A/C, whatever else... if it's not sold to you AS IS. Things a mechanic or body shop guy would only know are not covered. If there is a knock in the engine or the car constantly pulls to the right OBVIOUSLY the seller is aware of it and should inform you about it before the sale.
