Default Dealer says I need a new water pump!!

I drive a 99 ex coupe. It has 50000 on its bone stock motor. All I is drive it back and forth to school and work. I took it to my local dealer for a scheduled oil change and valve adjustment and he tells me that my water pump needs to be replaced. Anybody know what the usuall replacement mileage is, and what are the chances that the water pump is messed up this early in the car's life.

I guess it's just a sign. Time for that JDM B18C swap.

Water pumps usually get replaced BEFORE they go bad, first off. It is recommended during a t-belt since labor is cheaper in the long run that way.

It is entirely possible your pump is going early though. It is placed if there is any kind of coolant seepage from the pump, or if it is making a funny sound. It is not common, but it does happen.

I work at a dealer, I know because I have seen it happen.

Is it something I can replace myself or would you recommend I just have the dealer do it. I have access to a hydraulic lift and any tool you can imagine.

if you are gonna change the pump, might as well change the timing belt too.

Thanks for the encouragement oldskool. Dealer was planning on charging me $400+ for parts and labor to change the water pump for me. Besides theres nothing like saving a couple hundred bucks and working on your own car.

Probably not since you have to take it to the dealership to have an oil change and valve adjustment done.

People on H-T so quick to flame...is ******* disgusting. Maybe the guy doesnt have time to change his own oil, maybe he has to go to work/school, and it is best for him to just drop the car off at the dealer or a mechanic to take care of it for him while he takes care of his priorities.
