true but he said he replaced the rings. None the less he has to remove the pistons and buy a fealer guage and a manual and start over. But its definately ring related.

I dont mean to keep speaking for this guy but I would like to know whats going on with his engine too just in case i myself run in to the situation. And its clear nobody is reading what he says. The head has been to the machine shop. Head gasket could be the issue but that would not put smoke at the oil cap at all. Lets be be technical.

i had the same problem with my b20/vtec from a hard HPDE weekend. removed the head and found my block was cracked in all 4 cylinder giving alot of blow by. anyways if smoke is from the oil cap will be blow by or u have to much condensation in it.

After a compression test is done, a cylinder leakage test should be done...
When you replaced the rings, did you measure the bores?

yes a blow head gasket would put smoke out of the headgasket. on some headgasket problems you can actually hear the compression popping out of the oil cap. it it can bleed comression into the coolant system, it can bleed into the oiing system

I say do a compression test first!!! then do the resurface and check of the head then slap on a headgasket and you should be good to go.
