ive made good friends cross sea in other forums with owners of EK9's and they tell me how good they handel. though here in the states the EK9 of course does not exist. i was wondering if those who road race, autocross, etc think that EK9's handling characteristics is in the USDM EK's lies some where...like the cx or dx trims? could it be possible to build a USDM EK to be in par with a EK9 with out going over the EK9 price tag? i know honda did the whole welding idea but i figured with the same suspension swaped into a USDM EK and the right tune plus some welding points to be done too, it would surpass the EK9 stock or if not it would be up to par. thats my guess of course...your inputs

experienced people who race there USDM EK's opinions would help more thanks

 

anybody? something that i never really looked into but just realized. here in the US (so far) all the EK's and EG's i ran into are made in canada and no came from Japan. i always figured at least the EK CX trim but no. any opinons on that sorry for going off track.

All Honda's that are in America either came from the Honda plant in Canada, or in Ohio....however, just in the past 10 years, Honda has opened 2 new plants in Alabama and Indiana. But any EF,EG,EK were all either from Canada or Ohio.

Im unsure of the breakdown of which produced more and who got the majority of vehicles produced from those plants, but there are a few handfuls of people in America with ACTUAL, and i mean REAL DEAL Honda's imported from Japan.

With you question about making your chassis as stiff as a EK chassis, it can certainly be done, it will just be done in a different manner. On our side of the pond, and in the USA we have the EJ chassis....EJ6,EJ7,EJ8, and the Si is EM1.....

The only difference in the EK9 CTR chassis that would be hard to reproduce would be the factory welds behind the rear quarter panels to stabilize the rear end. Other than that, you can upgrade your subframe brace, control arms, stiffer camber arms, stiffer suspension/springs....also add things that the EK9 doesnt have like rear upper tie bar, or the x-brace for the hatch, or the lower trunk brace...etc....etc....

to answer your question in short, yes you should be able to make it up to par with a stock JDM EK9 Chassis....the only difference is those factory welds.....

 

I's day it definitely does. It's lighter than the Ek9 chassis and you see so many Type R engines being swapped into them. They're quick and handle great.

 

There are EJ6s from model year 1997 that were built in Japan.

 

Agreed. My 97 EJ was built in Japan.

As far as the OP's question, of course you can make a USDM EJ or EK chassis handle as well as an EK9. Just depends how much you want to spend.

the "Seam welded" from honda can it be replicated? or if not is there a alternative way to try an replicate the handling characteristics?

1997 only? and was that for sedan only as well or hatchbacks too? any integra's? besides the UDSM type r?
