98 GS R things to check on new purchase
New to this car and I am finding things I don't like. I knew car had been used hard but prior owner not too bright. I know I need a new timing belt, and I can't wait to acrue my 5 posts and 15 days as a newbie so I can post in wanted to buy. My new car (98 GS R) has header, blox intake, p28 comp, but the prior owner did not have the upper or lower timing belt covers. I realize this is bad and I have not seen any for sale in the market place. Any ideas on where I can get them would be great since I don't want to drive the car much till they are on there -especially the lower one. Any pointers on other things to check would be great.
well if your going to go through the trouble of replacing the timing belt, then i would go ahead and replace the water pump, PCV valve, spark plugs and wires. Usually when i get i new one i also replace the valve cover gasket and cam seal if they show the slightest signs of a leak. I also replace all the fluids because you never know how bad they are until you completely drain them yourself.
Those are just a few things I would do/check if your trying to get it in good daily driving mode. You never know how a previous owner actually treats their car.
Good Luck!

if this is gonna be a daily driver, i suggest you might wanna invest some money on new tail light gaskets. You dont want water splashing in your trunk when it's raining.

also are u going to be replacing the timing belt yourself?
and most of these parts are cheap and available at most auto parts stores so they are worth changing.
* and u can get the upper and lower timing covers from www.majestichonda.com for cheap.
buy the honda timing belt while you're at it. normally they are within 10 bucks of the aftermarket and fit perfectly. some aftermarkets are a little on the tight side
