Anyone know how ? Open for ideas.
Need to cut a 2 inch diameter circle into my rear windshield for rear wiper addition. Windshield is slightly curved and installed onto vehicle. Which tool is best ?

there is a tool called a glass cutter. its basically a little diamond wheel. home depot should have one but i think its gonna be tuff to cut a 2 inch circle. ive only used it to cut mirrors and they are pretty big
You'll need a specialized tool -- definitely need a diamond tooth something-a-rather .... your best bet will be to bring it to an auto glass shop. DEFINITELY worth the extra $ (might work out to be the same, since you don't have to buy the tool). Plus, if they break it, it's on their dime.
most all rear windows these days are tempered. in which case you will need to remove the temper with an anealing (sp?) oven. the only way ive ever seen tempered glass messed with was a tiny bit of sanding on the edges thats about it. the problem it that when they temper glass they cool the glass with compressed gas. causing the outside of the glass to cool faster than the center and thus creating a high surface tension. its a complicated process to try and do this. my father is the senior design engineer for taylor made glass and ive picked his brain about this very topic many times with dissappoint results. i assume your trying to put in a jdm rear wiper of some kind? is there any place you can source the correct window?
considering the cost of getting the tool to do it. and looking at the cost of a new back window, and looking at the cost of breaking your window trying. i would pay a shop that works with glass to do it cause then if they screw up they're accountable and you'd probably get one with the hole already.

I also wonder if you could have your window custom-made for you? Beats cutting, which is a sketchy way to do it, at best. Describe location/size you want the hole to be -- there's someone who can do it. You'll have to talk to a specialist, though. Ordering the window directly from Japan might still be cheaper than that though.... plus you'd get the one with bronze tint.
Thanks for your help guys. Yeah, this is for a JDM rear wiper assembly installed onto a USDM Prelude. I hate how the Preludes here in the states do not have this. I will go to a glass company locally and ask if they know or advice in doing this, last resort is to order directly from Honda of Japan - I suppose I can also order from Honda of Canada since 'Ludes there have a rear wiper as well.
I gotta think this one out, thanks for everyone's help.

Jeez, there's two 92-96 Preludes at the salvage yard I was at today - I'll bet you can have a rear window there for $100. I'll check if they have rear wipers ... but depending where you are located, it might be worth the trip! This is in Eastern Ontario.
