I NEED ALL THE HELP POSSIBLE PLEASE
I just picked up today a 98 gsr with i/h/e and its running a obd2a type-r ecu (p73)

however, it rides like **** and wont pass 4,000 rpm. it cuts off.
what can this be? motor sounds healthy and doesnt smoke

i was told the car ran good with another ecu but the guys a noob and doesnt know anything. i really like this teg and wanna get it running, please drop your feedback

 

well, get a gsr ecu.

 

Try open header, maybe exhaust clogged up.

 

yeah. i found one locally im getting it as soon as the sun comes up hopefully thats the problem

 

does it misfire?

 

i ran a p73 ecu on my 99 gsr and didnt have any of these issues.

 

maybe it's the dizzy

 

it hits the rev limiter @ 4k.
alrite so if i plug in the p72 (stock gsr ecu) and it still does this i'll check the dizzy. sounds reasonable. i hope its an easy fix

Is the CEL illuminated? If so, pull the codes and let it tell you why it is in limp mode. Also, what is the P/N on the ITR ECU (37820-P73-???)?

could be a bad distributor or bad ecu.

 

my car did that and its cuz i had a check engine light that my vtec oil pressure sender was out i fixed it and it rev up all the way

 

looks like a clogged cat or a vtec system problem. happens all the time if there is a oil pressure problem (lack of oil or a bad sender), feels like it hits a wall. most common in our shop is customers driving in with no oil in the motor and a vtec failure code.

 

a type r ecu wont open the butterflies on a gsr either

 

your spark plug wires could be missing a spark.

 

my homeboy had the same problem before and we changed the dizzy then everything was fine.Then my car had the same problem but mines couldn't go over 2500 rpm because it had a bad tps sensor.

 

someone probally did a half as tune on the ecu
