Clear Coat Sanding/Disaster i think... please help
Alright, heres the situation. I had a hood that i got from my junkyard and the clear coat was fading/peeling, whatever u want to call it. I decided to sand it down myself using 400 grit and went to town wetsanding. Well, needless to say i went down to the bare metal. Is that fine???? Can i just sand it down to that, take a can of primer and spray it and be fine??? heres a picture of what i did.

how long do i have before it starts rusting u think? the car is parked in the garage but i quit working on it today because i didnt want to hurt the hood more if i was doing so.
to be safe get a da sander and freshly sand it right before you prime it.... then scuff again before you paint it.
don't worry, you have to mess up in order to learn sometimes. Just spray a few layers of sandable primer over the bare metal, then when it comes time to sand again, just wet sand with 600 grit and be careful not to go down to the metal again.
Everyone here is giving you false info.
Bare metal needs to be ETCH primed or it will rust again, next time through the paint.
After etch primer i would either lay down a 2k high build, or just a basic primer to cover it for now.

agreed... u need etch prime/wash prime/epoxy prime/metal conditioner (either, or) on bare metal before u lay anything else on top of it... regular primer will not stop rust.
