Exedy Stage II Clutch + 9 lb flywheel, lasted 8 months?
Hey, I bought an Exedy Stage II 3 puck clutch back in Feb, the thicker version for durability. Anyway, about, oh 2 weeks ago my clutch started slipping again, so I took apart my trans last night and my plate was completely worn down. Now, I consider myself a pretty good driver, not some Nismo rep, but good enough to not wear down a clutch in 8 months! I do drive quite often, I've had my RSX-S for about 18 months now and I've put a good 40K miles on it. Is this normal? There was some un-even wear as well. Also, everytime I would downshift or slow down I could hear a weird grinding/whining noise but it was through every gear. I figured it would be the throwout. Also the clutch cover surface plate had some hairline fractures in it, wish I had a camera I'd show you guys. I don't really know what to think, is this altogether normal for an expensive *** clutch to just **** out after 8 months of mostly daily driving with a spirited run every now and again?

Yea I broke it in for 500 miles, took it pretty easy on the clutch, seemed fine and didn't give me any trouble. I was scared to rail on it
This seems to be quite strange. When I was researching upgrading my exedy Stage 1 to a Stage 2 or higher (when my flywheel was found to be grooved) I was told that only having 3 pucks in the stage 2 can lead to clutch chatter and multiplying any uneveness on the flywheel because the pucks are not like a full disk style clutch that contacts the entire face of the flywheel when engaged. Was your flywheel scratched/grooved in multiple areas when you tore it apart? My stage 1 clutch murdered my flywheel with circular grooves but the clutch still had tons of material and seemed perfect. Having a 3 puck clutch should not cause any issues with a brand new flywheel because the surface will be virgin during the break in period. I would take lots of photos and phone exedy and let them know what happened, the stage 2 is rated for like 240 lb-ft @ the wheels so youd need a ton of torque to prematurely wear it out.
Unless you are pushing some major HP, why not go with stock? Never understood people that go out and buy stage 2+ clutches, when they have your basic bolt-ons (not saying that you did that).

40k miles sounds decent for that clutch; cerametallic clutches aren't built for longevity. what's done to your motor, that you have that strong of a clutch?
