Post ELD PROBLEMS....need help..?

91 hatch bwith a b16 swap, keep throwing cel code 20- eld (electrical load detector) and this is what ive done as far as troubleshooting and im lost,

pulled 3 pin eld harness from fuse box in engine bay, check for voltage between black and yellow and ground, which goes to main fuse box under dash, good i think between 4-5 volts, and green and red and ground, which goes to ecm, or pcm, NO volts, checked the wire and nothing wrong with it and the pin connections good, so i replaced entire fuse box and nothing,

im lost here and dont know what to do or try and i dont want to take it to a dealer b/c they look at my car and motor and their head starts spinning with all the stuff i have on it and just the swap in general, plus i dont want to pay an arm and a leg for nothing, last time they put a switch on my ecu to just turn off my cel. a holes,

are you having problems with starting, headlights or etc. or is there a check engine light and you just try to kill it.

code 20 is usually a bad or dying alternator

Check for loose or corroded grounds.

Did you convert your car from DPFI to MPFI?

I did a bad mpfi swap and threw a code 20. I mispinned one pin over and that was the cause. It took me a good 40+ hours to figure that one out.

must be like civiccrx said. check wirings. also could be alternator. Mine threw no codes but ELD was fault. My lights kept flickering and radio kept turning off and on once in a while (alternator and battery good). replace my alternator and still same thing. One night my light and indash lights kept flickering really bad and it died on me. Took it to a mechanic and he took 3 weeks to fix my car. It was my Eld and 2 burnt wires( i think he said underneath my dash- steering colum). after that my car was running and running great right now.

I here have read your post, along with some others. I'm telling you that I had the SAME problem. Only thing was a check engine light that was pissing me off and showing code 20. I also checked my wires over and over and over and over again. I changed the fusebox under the hood a couple times too. I even took the dash out and replaced the fuseblock under the dash. ONE wire mispinned out of how many at the ecu? I am really happy now that it's gone though.

I would, bring it to someone who has the patience to check the wires at the ecu. I takes many painful hours to disect the problem. I am not exaggerating when I say 40+ hours to figure it out.

im in the same boat as you, im now throwing CEL 20. Ive noticed a month ago that my headlights would not come on when i turned them on and i had to hit the under-hood fuse box for them to come on.
