Default HF to Si question

IF i were to put the A6 in my HF could I keep the HF harness ? I searched and some people used the HF harness and got code 15 some used the Si harness and as far as I know it worked out but I didnt know if someone could shed some light on this. Also if I do have to swap harnesses aren't the dash harness and engine harness wired up together? I cant just pull the ecu connectors through the firewall and swap accordingly?

always use the engine harness that came in the car - it is the only engine harness that will match the chassis harness - people getting code 15 were trying to use the Si engine harness in the HF or the HF engine harness in the Si - with the HF engine harness, you will have one connector that isn't used on the A6 - it was for the EGR valve - if the A6 is not 88 model, you will have a Fast Idle Control Valve on the back of the intake manifold that the HF harness doesn't have a connector for - you can leave the FICV not connected and it will run fine and not cause a Check Engine Light - if you want to connect it, you will need to add a connector - the FICV has a 2-wire connector with one black with yellow stripe wire and one blue wire - you will need to add a wire from ECU pin B2 to the engine bay and connect it to the blue wire on the FICV - the black/yellow wire on the FICV is power and you can connect it into the black/yellow wire that goes to the connector for the EACV - this is the FICV:

No you can use whatever alternator you want as long as the plugs are the same... (basically as long as it is 88-91).

just put the HF harness on the A6 - it will plug right into everything except as stated above - HF distributor, starter and alternator will work on the A6
