Typically if a engine runs for a few minutes with no oil pressure, you need to get a new engine. Now is you oil light on a idle? Is there a gauge you can use at the oil pressure sensor.

Query your 'friend' for his maintenance history and ask him if he ran up over anything recently.

If your should get answers back like
"What's an Oil Change?" or
"I only went 4 wheeling with it once, why?"

You know what to do.

I am serious (however) about those questions. They could give a clue as to what's going on.

the friend is actually my gf's dad. he is a ase certified mechanic and has worked on cars all his life and in some busch series garages. he is just unfamiliar with honda's... i seem to know much more then him when it comes to honda, which is a little suprising. he recently purchased the car as a DD from a buddy of his. they replaced the timing belt, water pump, but set the timing wrong and bent the exhaust valves. he replaced those and had the head reworked... he said the engine is building no pressure and was just curious if it was a common problem... i told him what i thought and he seemed to brush it off, so i was just looking for more info on here.

I would double check the work performed on the front of the motor. Timing belt specifically.
On the 2.3, the pump is driven by a cogged sprocket off the timing belt:

I've seen collapsed oil pans cause this, along with extreme cases of sludge build up, but to get no pressure ..... no, you've got something else going on.
