finding/ordering b16 ys1 dipstick? and using synromesh?
when i got my car the trans had no dipstick it had a rubber cap on it... are all b series trans dipsticks the same? as in go to a junkyard and pull one from a ls? if not what would i order one for?? 96 97 sol si? em1?? reason being i am starting to get a 5th gear grind and want to swithc to syncro mesh. is there any difference between the gm stuff and non gm? capacity for a ys1? sorry, i would search all this but im posting from my phone cuz im in a bind and cant get to a computer.
wait, wat? either im reading this wrong or im confused....is this an automatic...if so those dont take mtf or syncromesh.....they use ATF z1......if this a manual you can use sycromesh, but they dont have a dipstick
umm? well i stated that i have a slight 5TH GEAR grind so yes it is a 5spd. And your goin to try and tell me that it dosent have a dipstick?? Well what is this hole in my trans covered by a freakin spark plug boot (removed for pic lol). hmm oddly it looks the same as my friends d16's trans dipstick hole thats... a 5spd
I just need to know if the sticks are interchangeable between b series motors or does it have to specifically be for a b16 ys1 cable trans (has hydro internals if it makes a dif...) not sure of the year either. I'm about to do some more research on the whole syncromesh thing but any tips/suggestions/experiences would be very helpful.

no dude thats not a dipstick hole, its a vent. theres supposed to be a little black cover over it that keeps dirt and water out, but allows air in/out.
And you also said it has a dipstick, so thats why I was a little confused on what you were asking because MANUAL TRANS DO NOT HAVE DIPSTICKS
since you seem to be a know-it-all that doesnt know much

You just fill MANUAL trans up until it runs out of the fill hole.

Okay, the reason I figured one went there, was my dad looked over the car after I bought it and said "need to get a dipstick for the trans", I thought he knew what the hell he was talking about due to owning a ridiculous amount of cars of all kinds, guess not. lol personally I've owned 1 other car which was auto so I haven't had much experience working/servicing a manual. Thank you for aiding in my learning curve, appreciate the help. (And yes the boot is still on there its just off for the pic.)

Also, there is no B16 YS1. Most YS1's are LS transmissions and the other few are 92-93 GSR transmissions. They're pretty close to a b16 tranny though compared to the hydraulic GSR's. Do you know what your rpm is around 50 mph in 5th? If it's the GSR tranny, it'd be around 2500-2700 I'd suspect.

B16 YS1 "XSI/RSI" JDM trannies are everywhere
They are pretty close the the 92-00 b16 hydro trannies, but the YS1 USDM GSR or JDM YS1 B16A trannies have a shorter 1st and 5th gear.
Same 2/3/4 though.

Correct. Just went out and counted a 90 and 93 LS. I need to put that list together, only been 2 weeks since I said I would.
