D16A, wont take throttle at cold start, bog, backfire.
Well In at my wits end here. New dizzy, new cap and rotor (borg warner, grey in color, looks slightly diff than my oem, slightly smaller cap contact pts). New plugs, gapped. wires. The motor ran like a top, till my rotor flew off in the cap toasting it and blowing the ecu. After the new cap rotor and ecu, this car runs horrifically bad at a cold start. It will crank for a LONG time, when before it was one crank and it fired. When given throttle, motor bogs like hell and backfires out the intake. after it warms a bit and throughout the higher rev-range it runs ok. My firing order is correct, I timed the dizzy to the dirt marks, which has ALWAYS worked before. Does this sound like a fuel issue? Or ignition? Im stumped! Thanks.
Are you throwing any codes by chance? Sounds maybe like you skipped some timing. Check the timing belt and make sure everything is stll lined up properly.
Well there is an issue there, I was throwing my o2 sensor code for so long my CEL burnt out, haha. So not sure bout codes. Here is what I have been doing in regards to timing which may be wrong. Im loosening the dizzy and as Im giving it throttle (which bogs it) I either advance or retard it and try to notice a change. I have no been jumping the service connector, however. Lol it sounds awfully half-*** after writing it. Im going to use a timing light today.

Well just adjusting the dizzy will adjust ignition timing, but if the car is a tooth or so off. I would pull out the cluster and replace the bulb to see what all codes you are throwing. I am assuming that you are running obd1 since you check the CEL through the light on the dash?
If not, then just look at the LED on the top of the ECU.

Yea, its obd1. Hmmm, if the timing belt was fine before, is there any way that now it can be a tooth or so off? Also, would this explain why its not taking throttle when its cold, and in the low-rev range? I guess codes would certainly help.
Well, the timing belt appears to be fine. This has got to be some kind of fuel issue. What controls the cold start fuel mixture? Im confused, its backfiring pretty badly when you bury the throttle, but once the motor warms even alittle bit it runs better.

I checked the map sensor by pulling it off and observing that drastic change that ensued haha. But I guess the real way would be to probe for proper voltage?
Do you happen to have the TPS and Map Sensor plugs switched around?
The MAP sensor plug should have white, green/white, and yellow/red wires going to it.
I also put in the troubleshooting steps for the MAP sensor to ensure it is working correctly.

Dephtone, Thank you for that pdf! Im going to use that first thing tomorrow. No, the map and tps def arent switched around, as I never removed either of them. Man this problem is really bugging me. So is the tps onmly uised at cold starts? Its so strange, when the motor is really cold it bogs so bad and backfires, but as it warms it runs perfectly. So Im not sure how the tps and map are used..are they used mostly at cold startup?
