hello h-t members, im seeking some assistance on finding this oil leak i have coming from my car. its a 99 jdm itr motor and its leaking oil from where the rear main seal is. its NOT the rear main seal because i changed it once, my cousin changed it once, and a friend of mine who is a honda tech. changed it and its still leaking. when i dropped my tranny, the whole bell housing was wet. my h-t friend says maybe it could be my "crank walking" but i dont have any metal shavings when i dropped my oil pan. i was just wondering is anyone have any other suggestions on where it might be coming from. please help need this fixed before i leave for school again! thank you in advanced!
common area for the oil pan to leak and or the rear main was never done correctly, and or the crank is scratched badly. easy to see where it's coming from. spray it all down with brake cleaner, wipe. start car and let it idle with you laying under it. before long you should see a drip
do it again, this time pull the plate so you can see where it's coming from. it might be the pan gasket. i've had two leak there and the only way i could find it was by pulling that plate off so i could see the entire gasket. low and behold oil crept out the edge. besides, this way you can watch the flywheel spin while you're under there

i never had a plate there to begin with due to losing it after motor swap...and oil is dripping right in between there although i cant seem make it where its coming from exactly. i just know its coming from maybe the end of the oil pan or between the rear main seal. it drips between the block though

you should be able to tell since the rear main would show oil up higher than the pan. if you cleaned it really well and there is no oil by the rear main when you look up there it's the pan. if you see a trail running down behind the flywheel it's the main. the way i would test for the main is by squirting an *** load of brake clean behind the flywheel. let it dry, swab with a qtip to make sure there is no oil. start, let in run, swab again. if you have oil above the pan there you go. if you do not it's likely the pan. that's actually a common area for the pan to leak but without seeing it i can't really say much. just test
Here is what you do, you go out and buy some UV dye that you put in the oil and with a UV light check where it is coming from.
