T belt inspection vice replacement
My '91 lx has 150K on the clock. I've owned it for the last 3 years and about 27K. I bought it from a friend at work and know it's history back to about 80K. So, I am reasonably sure that the belt is original.
I plan on replacing it soon as it is definitely on borrowed time. A guy at work says "just pull the top cover and inspect it. If you don't see cracks, it's fine. Just do it every few months.
This would be a fine strategy for a non interference engine. I think it sounds kind of dumb for a motor that becomes a pile of scrap when it lets go.
What say you folks?

Yeah, you could remove the valve cover and remove the camgear cover and take a look, but... honestly, with 150k and being the original belt (if it really is), you might as well replace it now.
Either way you have to spend the money to get it replaced.
However, you can spend the money now and not worry.
Or you can spend it later along with the ever increasing chance that you'll also have to pay for some new valves if not a new motor.
Seems obvious to me!
