adjusting timing belt without removing valve cover

Default adjusting timing belt without removing valve cover

ok is there a way that i push my timing belt back towards the engine? its getting close and rubbing on my plastic bottom belt protector piece and whining during start. i tried pushing it in, i just wanna see if there's a quick method to doing this or am i just going to have to save some time one day to remove valve cover and readjust it that way? like could i push it using like a metal ruler or something? thanks...

how do you know its moving? if i remember theres two metal peices on each side of the t belt down on the crank shaft to keep it from moving its been a while since i did one. how did you try pushing it in with the cover on?

there's plastic powder where it touches the plastic protector. :-D

i think i'm going to remove the valve cover and cut it so i have cam access, plus i like how it looks. any opinions?

if its rubbing theres a problem, if the crank pulley is tight the belt guides will hold the belt in the correct position. either your tensioner isnt holding the belt tight, the belt is stretched, the timing cover is loose/broken, or the crank pulley is loose. you need to do a timing belt water pump job.

i hate life. schardbody is right... i checked it this morning and it just really wants to swing into position. might as well just do a timing belt job...

might add that i think all i need is tensioning on my timing belt... i don't trust myself with this so looks like its a trip to the mechanics on tuesday! hope i don't kill my car driving it for another two days...

if you think your timing belt is rubbing in your timing belt cover than i suggest you remove the valve cover and do it properly. it shouldn't take long. 10-15 min. at the most to push the belt back in. but yeah the timing belt is held in pretty tough and shouldn't be moving back and fourth.
