ive got a 1990 crx Si w/ a boosted b16a. its blowing exhaust smoke through the breather hole in the valve cover. **** is weird and it just started happening. did a ring go bad? im only running like 8 lbs of boost.
do a compression test and maybe a cylinder leakdown test as well. see what kinda numbers come back. it'll tell you a lot more than guessing will. probably not going to be good no matter what, but it'd be better to have some idea whats going on before you decide to start pulling the engine apart.

thats what i was just looking at. looks like whoever had the car last had a bad pvc in there and the line going to it blocked off with a bolt! the other line going out of there is going into the block. how is the set up supposed to be so i can put it back that way. can this be my problem? will do a comp test asap.
Stock the pcv is supposed to go from the back of the block at the pcv box up through a vacuum line that then hits your pcv valve, and from there enters the intake manifold. many times when people run boosted setups they will use a catch can and do effectively the same thing the stock unit does, only slightly better since you are able to catch the excess oil rather than recirculate it into the intake tract.
many write-ups on how to do this. this is just one of them

do compression check!... same problem with mine.. running 8 pounds boost on a basemap.. boost went from 8 to 6 and mad blowby out the valve cover.. did compression test and cylinder number 3 had 70 compression compared to 210... pulled it apart... piece of my piston skirt broke off but still in tact an scratched the **** out of the walls... had to overbore it.. but good luck man.. doesnt sound to good

ok just did the comp test it came out 210/180/180/70 lol.. would it be more economical to buy a newer b16a or b18c or just rebuild the b16a i have? time is not an issue.
Actually, tear it down and see what condition your sleeves are in first.
You might have gotten lucky and can just hone it.
Personally, I would not bother with the bottom end if it needed to be bored unless you have future plans for more boost!
Cost of boring and loss of cylinder walls don't add up to me on a boosted motor.
If you are planning to go for 400hp+ this is your chance for getting the block sleeved!
Either way you go (same block or new) you REALLY should consider upgrading pistons, rods, bearings.
Under boost your stock piston has far more potential to break a ring land than an aftermarket.
You do have options - a cheap LS bottom end built up for boost would be pretty sweet!

keep me updated on what you did. i have this same problem. turboed b16a but mine sounds like its misfiring a little. also has a lot of smoke coming out or my breather.
Stock b16 pistons are notorious for cracking ringlands. Exhaust/Smoke coming out of the breather hole usually indicates blow-by, which on b16's usually results in a cracked ringland.
Either way you will have to rebuild it.

well good luck with the build... same happened to me... i ended up havine to over bore it .5.. got wiseco pistons 81.5 scat rods completely balanced crank and no sleeving.. mildly done head on a .57 trim turbo 410hp no problem all day 15psi...
