Default Taking out ECU to guard against theft?

I dont know if there is a bad side to this or not but i take out the ecu to my LS whenever i go to places where i cant check on my car. Such as the movies or at work or whenever it sits in the driveway for a couple days and i dont drive it. Any downside to this or not?

when u take it to the movies??? do you just carry it around with you or something? if you're not going to be driving your car for a few days and are leaving it in your driveway, why not just take off a couple tires??

downsides - in case of an emergency(fire in the building beside your car), you wont be able to get away fast.

The downside is thiefs are smart and sneaky, they'll more than likely pimp you out and bring an ECu.I do this sometimes as well,I have it so I can just pull off the kick panel and disconnect it in seconds. But its alot easier than pulling off the tires and putting it on jack stands.I would do it when my teg is in suspect spots mall movies ect.

well, i think i'd be more upset that my entire car was wrecked, deck stolen, deep scratches on dash, windows broken, locks f*cked etc.

Plus if someone wants to steal the CAR and not the stereo etc. they will watch you for more than a day, and notice your carrying your ecu with u (the same thing would apply for hitting a kill switch in your trunk EVERYTIME you got in your car...they will notice.)

I think thats a bit of a hassle.. I can't imagine carrying my ECU into the movie theater and what if your friend spills soda or sumthing on it.. Lolz then you and every1 that rode w/ you is stranded....

its also quite obvious.. a lot of thieves will stalk their victim to learn their schedule/habits before they break into the car so they kinda know when the owner is least likely going to be at the vehicle to discover the theft and also if the owner does anything unusual or has a routine everytime (ie.. move body/hand over to hit a kill switch, take out face plate and slide under seat or in the trunk, or whatever other routine which can tell the theif something..

its going to be very obvious to see you take out your ECU everytime.. they'll probably just bring their own so I don't know if its worth the trouble of taking out your ECU each time...

why not wire a couple of kill switches? theres many places you can hide them..

You should carry your ECU in one of those Case Logic Cases that everybody use to carry there decks in before they came out with detachable faces......
