If you can peice up at b18c1 motor that would be your best bet. If you are going to be making more then 400 whp I would suggest a b18c1 tranny as well. IF anything under 400whp, then go with a b16 tranny.

So what are the advantages of going B18 instead of B16?

B18c1's make more tq (the crank)

I think the best set up if you wanted to peice together a head/cranl/ block would be:

b16/b18c1 head. LS crank as they make the most tq. and b18c1 block.

So you are saying the B16 head with B18 cams and a B18 block with a LS crank in it? How do you have your car built?

If thats is indeed what your friend says they are wrong. The Vtec blocks have better webbing reinforcement, the block girlde in the GSR case as well as the oil squirters to help with high rpm operation. The GSR block, for these reasons, is certainly "stronger" then the LS block.

As for the torque being "better" .... I don't know about that. They make 1 ftlb less torque stock vs stock then a GSR. They do peak sooner and also have a longer stroke, thus slightly more displacment then the GSR. As for an LS/Vtec... if built correctly, they can be quite potent engines.

You can do a LS/Vtec if you would like. I my self would pick up a b16 head, LS crank and b18c1 block. I think the b18c1 blocks are better, but could be wrong.

LS crank in a B18C1 block I believe would mean you need to remove the oil squirters in order to allow for clearance. Since the LS crank has a longer stroke, they will hit the squirters. You MIGHT be able to bend them out of the way, but I would think this would redirect the oil stream away from the piston skirts, taking away from the whole idea.

^^ ^ This is very true. But if he plans to put in better components anyway, he can block them off w/ an Oil squirter block kit.

you guys are funny. With boost it wont really matter what setup you go with. I'd personally find the best deal and roll with that. ls/vtec, gsr, b16, etc.... who cares if your boostin!

b20's arent as strong as GSR blocks, so it depends on how much you're looking to boost.

To the post about the LS crank and b18c1 block....it can be done...Some one local to me has a LS crank and B18c1 Block...works fine. Not sure what he did about the oil squiters, but prob got the kit like you said.

Yeah, I would go with any motor really....just your own preference. B20 would prob be the last on the list for me though..

B18c1...LS/Vtec....B16a....B20.

You just said you like the B16 because you can rev the **** out of it but then you turn around and say you don't care about torque.... The whole idea behind higher rpm power is the ability to gear it. Gearing is what gives you torque to the wheels. I promise you DO care about torque. You just seem to get good deals on B16's.

B16's suck for boost, they have higher compression, they lack displacement, and they have really short geared trannies.

Unless you get a really sweet deal, i wouldnt boost that motor cause for the price of a
B16, you can buy a B18B, which is a much better candidate for turbo.

B20's arent good either. Its basically a B18B bored to a 2.0, so the cylinder walls are thinner and wont hold up to boost as well as the LS.

But you can boost whatever you want, im just giving you the better options...

if you're going boost an engines stock compression shouldnt matter much because you should get low comp pistons anyway.

"there is no replacement for displacement", but theres still some pretty bad *** b16s out there.

b20's can hold a fair amount of boost, its all in the tune.

Umm, no, its not ALL in the tune, and im not sure why everyone says that.

Also, not everyone builds there motor so in most cases compression should matter.

I was just stating the facts, the dude can choose what he wants, but he might as well take the more logical route.

BigD, im not sure what your getting at, maybe you can explain whats horribly wrong in my post instead of posting something so bland that makes absolutely no sense what so ever...

UMM yea. It pretty much IS all in the tune.
Ive had a turboed b20 for years with no problems. The b20 block controversy is over.

If your building a daily driver,Go with the B16 turbo because you will have major traction problems but traction gets better with the lower stroke B16.Unless your gonna race at the track,Then go GSR because youll have slicks and it wont matter.Put it this way if you raced with a 350whp street tire B16 againsy a 600 whp GSR on street tires,You will kill the bigger motor since hell be spinning all 4 gears.
