Default 2300 rpm Idle... Vaccum leak, best way to find it?

Hi

I have a d16y8 with a greddy 15g kit... dsm side mount intercooler, 345cc h22 injectors... I just got the car tuned last night and had to end the tuning early because of a massive vaccum leak that we couldn't locate. THe car idles at about 3000 rpm when I start it and after about a minute changes to 2200rpm idle....

So I used brake cleaner and sprayed all my hoses and around the intake manifold... checked all my charge piping... even used soapy water to see if it would bubble. One suggestion was that the intake manifold gasket blew out under boost... is this possible???

So what is the best way to find this vaccum leak? Thanks a ton!

carb cleaner around all vacuum lines/intake manifold, etc.....watch for a change in idle. i wouldnt think soapy water would work since the air leak would be sucked in, not pushed out like with positive pressure.

isn't carb cleaner corrosive to get on wires and hoses? And ya I guess soapy water isn't the best idea... im trying everything I guess

i dont know anything about it being corrosive....but i have used it to diagnose all vacuum leaks ive come across.

another question, it was suggested that my intake manifold gasket could have blown out from boost..... I just replaced the intake manifold gasket with a brand new one... is this likely the case? Where is the most likely place to get a vaccum leak... keeping in mind I was fine for 2 hours on a dynapack then suddenly got this leak

if ur intake gasket is drawing in air....check with carb spray.......maybe retorque the bolts.

if you are scared of carb cleaner, dont be. use 2+2. spray and listen for the rmp change.

Easy Fix.....Spray a can of Brake Cleaner works good and listen for the engine to die down......also as boostedcivicsir said

Ya I have been using brake cleaner and I re torqued all my bolts and charge piping... Still can't find any vaccum leaks... is there anything else that could cause an idle this high?

can anyone answer if it's possible that my new intake manifold gasket "blew out" under 8psi of boost... like suggested

are you certain ur dealing with a vacuum leak? do you have a gauge hooked up, and what does it read at idle?

I do not have a gauge and Im not sure at all I have a vaccum leak... I was getting the car tuned and the tuner was like "**** something just popped off" (because the idle went up to about 2300rpms) then we searched for something and couldn't find the leak... So Im not sure i have a leak but the tuner said he thought it was a leak.... what else could it be?

maybe IACV problem....check coolant level too. if you can hook up a vac. gauge, that would be a good idea.
