don't buy a "crapsman"

I would phone a few bodyshops and ask for advice on bang for buck -quality sanders.

Depends on what he's using the DA for. Pro use or not I'd go with Dynabrade. You can get a Dynabrade DA in different orbits. 3/8", 3/16", and 3/32". Used for different applications. So get the right DA that fits what he will be mostly using it for.

Different orbit sizes. From coarse to fine. Ruffing up the surface to final finishing. For example, I use my 3/32" to cut and buff. I cut into my freshly cured clear with 1500 dry for the initial cut and up to 3000 wet and then I buff.

Go for a IR one.

They make great compressors and good DA's. Way cheaper than a Dynabrade.

Which IR sander are you talking about? Their orbital sanders thats equivalent to Dynabrade is not much cheaper. Maybe like 20 bucks but that's it. I got an IR compressor and yes IR does make good compressors.
