Looking for A b series timing how to
Hi just joined the forum, ive been using the H-t search engine and im sure there is a good write up on how to do timing from scratch on here.
I have a b18 block b16 head, I put it so #1 and #4 are at TDC. How do i know which one is on compression and which one is on the exhaust stroke, does it matter?
Looking for a good write up about how to align the cams as well as the distrubutor. Thanks for any help you can provide

so im guessing the head is not mated to the block? if not, then u have it correct. just make sure when u put the head on, the cams are at TDC as well.
yes the head is not mated to the block, also heres the thing.... My buddy is telling me i have to pull the oil pump to determine where the true TDC is. (crank pulley is not torqued down yet). Basically im waiting to put the motor together until i figure this timing thing out. Is there any way to line up tdc with out haveing to pull the oil pump and then re-mic it
LMAO.... do me a favor and punch ur buddy straight in the mouth and tell him he is stupid.! There is an arrow cast into the oil pump that points to the crank and there is a line stamped into the timing belt gear that u line up with that arrow. That is one way among many to know ur at TDC.
haha, yea thats what i thought ive seen the arrow b4 but i just wanted to confirm, the kid was determined to convince me other wise. Come to find out hes we was messing with me and im too paranoid about gettin this thing done right to see through the bull sH*t. thanks for your input through
