Fail. All current flows through the battery.

Not true sir... i've done this before to test why my car wouldn't start without a jump. Started the car and pulled the battery cable and it still ran off the alternator. Turned out to be a bad battery. Changed it out and everything was perfect from there.

Of course this was on my tracer years ago, but it should still work the same way i'd think.

EDIT: Just confirmed. Well, sort of. I only tested by disconnecting the negative terminal. Either way, the battery is used to control power spikes and aids your alternator to keep it from burning out. Maybe a bad alternator, or a bad connection somewhere. I'd suggest getting a wiring diagram and checking continuity throughout your charging system.

Also, with the car running, check voltage across your battery. If it reads upwards of 14 volts then everything is good, if it's 12v or lower, definitely a problem with your charging system.

Wrong. The alternator is there to supply voltage to the battery, not the car. The reason it has a control circuit is so the ecu can shut it off when it doesn't need to supply extra power, and turn it on when the voltage drops. Go check out some of the race cars that don't have alternators and run on batteries only and then tell me the car runs off the alternator.

I have run a few preludes and accords off alternator only. I would pull a battery out of one car, start the other car, take the battery out. The car would not have a battery in it at all, and put the old battery back in it to get charged.

I'm not saying that every car ever made needs an alternator. I know for most cars manufactured before somewhere around 1997 they run primarily off of the alternator. Newer cars are primarily the same, the difference is that due to the potential power spike caused from "load dumping" (what happens when you take the battery out while the car is running) there's a special circuit that senses this and shuts the car off.

I've never read any of the other threads by the OP, so i'm not sure how old or how new his car is. But for my '94 Si, i can disconnect the battery and still run the car. I JUST did it last night. Again... not the safest thing to do, but it has been done by many people, many times.

yes there is a power drain i have a NEW battery,New Altenator,New battery terminals i think it might be the wiring from the altenator to the battery cus its not charging the battery back i also checked some wires under the fender that were hangning off but none of them were torn so i just black taped them and zip-tied them back to place ima check out the wiring tomorrow and keep on updating till this problem is solved cus right now the lude isnt drivable right now since the power is being drained and the car dies out on the street

Do a continuity test on your wiring going from the alternator to the battery. Either that, or check your actual battery cables. Fuse???

Have you tried said process? (removing the battery while the car is running)

The car should still run if you take the battery out of the loop. But you keep saying that you have a new alt. did you check voltage at the alt while the engine is running? It should be 13.2 + if not your alot is dead. Also you need to check all fuses and wires. Also just got autozone or some auto parts chain to have your charging system checked its free most of the time.
