Default Royal Purple 75W-90 Gear Oil a good choice for D16z6 Tranny?

1995 Ex 5-speed, stock engine and tranny.

Just wondering, my transmission is a bit low on fluid and hasn't had a fluid change in 2 years. I usually use the Royal Puple 5W-30 Motor Oil and have been satisfied with that so I figured I'd give their transmission oil a try. Yes I know theirs the fluid I can get from Honda dealers but I wanna give something else a try. Has anyone else tried this transmission fluid?

I believe I remember that it says specifically in the Helms manual to NOT use gear oil in Honda transmissions. I could be wrong, but I'm almost certain I saw it somewhere official.

At any rate, 75W90 is much too heavy to use in Honda transmissions. 5W30 is the way to go, but Honda MTF is supposedly special 5W30 with additives meant for Hondas.

Personally, I feel that Honda MTF is still the best choice for these cars.

I'll have to look through my manual again then, I don't recall seeing anything that said don't use gear oil, but I may have overlooked something.

What about 10W40? I read that was also acceptable in one of my manuals, don't recall which, but then I also remember seeing something about how 75W90 has the same viscosity as 10W40 Motor Oil and that there are better fluids for the tranny out there besides regular oil like the Redline 70W80 GL-4 Gear Oil.

What's everyone else using?

Yeah I guess I'll drive out to a Honda dealer and just use their fluid before I make this more complicated than it is and end up buying something that'll ruin the tranny lol.

75W90 would be waaaaayyy too thick for ur single cams trans. It is made for most rearwheel drive cars. A front wheel drive trans can use 5W30 or 10W30 and honda MTF...
