Fog light switch
Anyone know how to wire aftermarket fog lights (with standard two wire set up= 1. signal 2. power supply) into an OEM fog light switch? What pins do the wires hook onto? Anyone know? Please help. Thanks.
Did your aftermarket fog lights come with a relay of any sort?
Did you want to wire them:
1. to be able to turn on at all time or
2. on only when headlights/corners are on?
As for the 2-wire switch, it is a simple configuration. For #1, one of the switch inputs would be hooked up to constant power and the other outputted to to the foglights + input.
For #2, (would probably need a relay) first input of switch will be coming from a source such as the corner lamp. Only when the corner lamp is on, the fog can be powered. So the other connector of the switch will go out to relay to latch that on.
Hope that helped a lil bit.

I already have them hooked up...they've been hooked up for like 8 months. I have them running directly off of the battery. The problem is, I had a nice pushbutton switch from radio shack that I painted to be an exact match for the interior. The switch broke the other day, and I want to know if there would be a way I could keep these lights hooked up to an OEM foglight switch. I really don't want to have to buy another switch and spend hours getting the paint match perfect again like I had to last time.

I'll go look in my manual and figure out what the pinouts are on the oem switch.
Here's another thought for you, why don't you use a multimeter to figure out which of the pins are tied together when the switch is depressed? Test for continuity between the pins. Anyways, I'll try to find the pinout....

I couldn't find anything in the manual since the foglight switch is an accessory to the car. I tried...
Try testing continuity, or better yet try to find some instruction for the factory fog kit which should describe the switch itself and the wiring. That way you can tell what is what.
ok, any ideas on what I wires I would hook mine up to? Would I hook my on/off wire to the red/white wire, and hook the power supply wire into the red one??
Ok, I talked to my brother about this (he majored in Human Factors engineering in college, and took a few electrical engineering classes). If we figured it out right, I can hook the battery wire into the red/white plug in the switch, and the wire going to the foglights to the red/yellow plug. However, since in doing this I would be bypassing the resistors in the switch, meaning that the wires would be running wide open (and blowing my fuse). To fix this, I would have to determine the resistance of my original switch, then run a resistor of the same amount of ohms in line with one of the wires, and then hook it into the OEM switch. Does this make sense? Am I on the right track, or am I totally off?
