running a cone filter right on the throttle body?
i rode in a very fast integra (with a prelude engine) that had a strange intake setup and i was wondering if anybody knows wether this would be beneficial or not.
the cone filter was fastened straight to the throttle body with no intake tube or anything. just hose clamped straight to the throttle body.
the car was built by a guy who's famous around here for knowing what he's doing with imports but this just seemed like such a strange setup that i would ask the honda-tech community's opinion on this.
it seemed to me like it would pull way too much heat off the engine but this car was very fast and responsive.
i'm posting this in the civic/del sol section because i might possibly try this on my 93 del sol. just wondering what you guys thought about this kinda intake setup.

It's stupid to do unless you only care about high RPM power; like drag racing. You're going to lose torque, which is obviously bad for a daily driver or street car. Also as you mentioned, it's just going to be sucking in hot air.
that explains it. yea, this teg was completely setup for drag. it's amazing what a stock engine with a lower differential gear can do.
yea i don't see any big gains from doing this, and he could be going boost soon or something, didn't need to spend money on a intake i guess? and a h22, im sure he was broke after that swap. and u sure it wasn't a h2b swap? (h22 motor b series tranny)

Care to explain? Why is losing torque an "obviously bad thing for a daily driver or street car"?
