Default HELP OVERHEATING

I did a head swap. When I first turn on white smoke came out and it overheated and some antifreeze was missing. So i Filled back up and tried driving again this time no white smoke at all but still overheating. It has a brand new radiator and fan switch. Check thermo also has new head gasket of course. At first I thought head gasket but it new and the oil is not milky plus its not blowing white smoke anymore. What could be causing this??????????

sounds like there is still air in the system.

how long did you bleed the cooling system for?

Could have an air bubble in system. take the radiator cap off and let it sit for a couple of hours. Check to see if the coolant level changes. If it does, then you know it had a air bubble in the system. Add coolant and start up, checking temperature.

Bleed the cooling system as suggested in the service manual.

This procedure may take 20-30 minutes:

1) Park the car on an inclined driveway with the front end higher than the rear.

2) Push the dash heater lever/**** to MAX heat.

3) Follow the directions in the diagram below

if you don't have a bleeder screw on the housing at the end of the upper rad hose then you run the car for a bit with the radiator cap off. after the thermostat opens you should see it begin to bubble and you will need to add more coolant.

Did you bleed the cooling system exactly as described in my earlier post? If the fan didn't run, how long did you let the engine run during the bleed procedure?

Was the dash temp gauge reading overheating but the fan wasn't running?

I let it run about 4 min and the dash temp gauge was a little more than half way and fan still did not kick in but top hose was hot

That's not long enough to get the air out. I think you still have air trapped in the system. Jump the 2P fan switch connector so that the fan runs continuously. Then bleed the system EXACTLY as I described. Let the engine idle for at least 20 minutes.

It takes a long time to bleed it. I have learned to bring a magazine to the garage for this one lol.

Insert a short piece of wire into the unplugged connector so that the two terminals are connected.

You will find the fan switch on the thermostat housing. Unplug the 2P connector and insert a jumper wire into it as I have described. The fan should run continuously, if the switch was not activating the fan. Once you properly bleed the system, I suspect that the jumper won't be needed any longer so try replugging the connector with the switch.
