The Definative Brake Upgrade Guide for bolt on brake upgrades for ’92 – 00 civics

1992 – 1995 Civics

• If upgrading to Integra or civic Si rear disc brakes only:
  - ’92 - '93 civic Si proportioning valve (3040)
  - The master cylinder does not need to be upgraded as it is identical to the ’92 Si (13/16)
• If upgrading to Integra brakes all around:
  - ’94 – ’01 Integra front knuckles, including calipers, rotors and flex lines
  - ’94 – ’97 non ABS Integra proportioning valve (or ’90 – ’93 non ABS Integra Prop valve with original civic bracket)
  - ’90 – ’91 Civic EX 15/15 master cylinder (bolts up to stock ’92 – ’95 civic brake booster and brake lines, Honda Part number 46100-SH4-A11) or ’93 – ’95 EX coupe (non ABS) 7/8 master cylinder. Or ’94 – ’97 Non ABS Integra 15/16 master cylinder and brake booster
  - ’88 – ’00 civic, or ’90 – ’01 Integra trailing arms from a car with rear discs (’90 – ’93 integra used a slightly different trailing arm bushing that’s more expensive, but the arms with bushings bolt up the same way), including hubs, calipers, rotors, parking brake cables and flex lines (note that you can swap the rear hub onto your old drum trailing arms as well)

1996 – 2000 Civics

• If upgrading to rear discs only:
  - This is somewhat confusing, as no 6th gen civic came from the factory with small front brakes and rear discs, my guess would be simply add the rear discs and don’t change anything else, there’s technically no correct proportioning valve. The master cylinder should definitely not be changed.
• If upgrading to Integra, or Si brakes all around:
  - Use ’96 – ’00 Civic EX/Si front knuckles, including calipers, rotors and flex lines (Integra front knuckles also work, but I believe you will need an alignment after the swap)
  - ’88 – ’00 civic, or ’90 – ’01 Integra trailing arms from a car with rear discs, including hubs, calipers, rotors, parking brake cables and flex lines (note that you can swap the rear hub onto your old drum trailing arms as well)
  - ’96 – ’00 Civic CX/DX(hatchback/coupe)/Si proporting valve, all are identical, note that the DX/LX sedan use a different proportioning valve (weird!) As do all EXs. You can also use a ’98 – ’01 non ABS Integra proportioning valve.
  - ’99 – ’00 Civic Si master cylinder. Or ’98 – ’01 Integra non ABS master cylinder and brake booster

Notes:
The preceeding guide ***umes the following:
-The civic receiving the brake upgrade is non ABS
-All Civics mentioned in the preceeding guide are US models, Canadian models differ in terms of what the trim level is called (EX sedan is an EX-V in Canada, etc)
- This guide is the result of doing a few different brake swap and a lot of research, mostly comparing part numbers after seeing so many people asking questions, I figured it would be easier to compile everything in a guide rather than continuously answering the same questions.

Anytime there's an integra brake conversion, your always there to poke your nose in. This should clear up a lot of those questions.

Correct. The CX/DX hatchbacks and Si/HX coupe all share the same proportioning valves, identical part numbers. Oddly DX sedans use a different prop valve .

 

What about 1" type r MC and Booster on a EG with teg brakes all around?

Any benefit?

Bout to setup mine, have rears waiting too go on and gonna be doing fronts as well with teg

 

you can also use ep3 rear rotors and rsx base pads with an rsx caliper bracket to get a 10 inch rear set up on the EG

 

Using a larger MC than the brakes were designed for just results in a rock hard brake pedal. So no benifit, unless you were planning to run a complete ITR brake setup.

 

Why would you need an alignment after converting to rear disk?

 

Unless you unbolt the compensator arms and upper and lower control arms from the subframe you don't. You do apparently need an alignment if using Integra front knuckles on a 6th gen civic (knuckle is has slightly different overall dimensions causing negative camber IIRC)

 

So if you get the 91 EX MC you dont need too change booster too if youre getting Teg fronts and rears?

What prop valve should be used with an EX civic (larger front brakes) when switching to rear discs? Non-ABS.

 

So do the EM1 Si and the GSR use the same brakes?

Great info!!! question, are ex and Si master cylinders the same for the 96-00 civics?? and is there anyone here running DX/LX brake master cylinders with upgraded Si/GSR front and rear brakes?? I just want to know if its really necessary to upgrade the MC ...

 

No. Integra brakes use a larger caliper piston, same size rotors though.

 

im running a 1" gsr master and gsr booster and my pedal isnt rock hard, but there was a big improvement on braking with my integra knuckles

 

because you take down the rear trailing arm.. that throws the rear toe off...
