Default Using a 1000 watt amp on an odyssey pc680??

Currently in my prelude i have an odyssey pc680 battery. Reason why i have that battery is because i track my car, but it is also my DD. I came across an awesome deal on an audio system that i couldn't pass up. Its a kicker 15 with a sony 1000 watt amp. Figured I would remove the system when it was track time.. What do you guys think? Can I put the system together with the battery and make it work? Should I install a cap for good measure? I searched and i really couldnt find anything that was relevant to my question..Thanks H-T ASV.

while the car is runing power isnt coming fromt the battery, so inless your going to be runing it alot when the car is off id say your fine, just make sure your alternator is up the task of runing it.

caps are really only a band aid fix, yes they work but, youd be better off throwing a high output alt in.

edit-- forgot to ask how many watts your runing rms?

You will have no problem, other then the amp is underpowered for that sub, amp is 1x400W RMS into 4 ohms, not stable below 4 ohms when bridged into mono.

As mentioned, once car is running the alt. supplies power.
Upgrading the alt. is the only way to get more current, [power] but a cap will help "stabilize" current to the amp at peak demand. 94

I looked up the amps that a prelude alternator puts out. Its about 95-100amps. I usually dont turn the bass up really high. I like to have some bass but only to where i can here it. Not where it completely drowns out the music. Would that have any effect?

You are fine. Don't worry about it unless your headlights or other interior lights dim on a strong bass note.

Your only problem is going to be if you are rocking the heck out of your system. The amp will drain the battery and power what it needs from the alternator. Now the alternator is going to have to charge the battery and run the amp. Worse case is that while rocking the system when the bass hits hard it will just shut off the car. The alternator has no more current to run the car and the system and charge the battery.

I had to fix of couple of cars like this on the west coast. One guy brought in a civic couple with a alpine pdx1000mono and a pdx4.100. This is alot more then you but if he played his music at high volume it would quickly kill the car battery and shut the car off on a bass note.

Also had a car that had a kicker 800watt amp and it did the same thing.

as long as you are easy on the volume **** you would be good to go. Text your alternator to make sure its up to par.

Did the amp drain the battery because it was pulling more current than the alternator was capable of putting out? Because that would make sense.

My alternator was replaced about 2mths ago. Replaced ALT and belt while i was at it. Like i stated above, i just like to have a little bit of bass. so the gain on the amp would be kept at a minimum, and ill control the bass from the subwoofer setting in my CD deck. Its just to have some bass in my car. Also im only going to be powering one kicker 15.

Yes, You could not play the system at a good volume before the battery just went dead the amp would motorboat and the car would idel low when the bass hits. I reccommend not trying to run more then 400-700 whats rms off something like this. And 700 is pushing it.
