Default Big rear brakes - any side effects?

I am thinking of getting this kit to enhance my braking performance:

http://www.fastbrakes.com/pages/kits/bigrear.htm

But, I am concerned about the rear braking becoming too strong, therefore making braking unpredictable all together (kind of the effect of pulling the ebrake). I was wondering if anyone has this kit, and whether it does in fact distrub the braking balance too much?

TIA

"used in conjunction with the Fastbrakes front upgrade"

the front kit I would get first. the key is to maintain balance.

brake swap? not a bad way to spend $200.

mountain view?! i'm from san jo, but currently residing in s.d. fastbrakes is distributed down here in el cajon, about 20 mins. away from me. good luck.

question: why would you need the front brake system to equate with the rear?

thanx

The idea was to reduce the nosedive, which I can still feel even with a pretty stiff suspension setup. However, doesn't look like I will be doing it since I cannot yet upgrade the front.

The rear brakes only do about 10% of the braking for a Civic or Integra. It doesn't seem very cost-effective to upgrade only your rears. I would also think that it would throw off your brake balance, but I don't know how ABS comes into play here if you have it (something tells me it wouldn't be happy)

I just got my FRONT Fastbrake 11" Kit installed last week... So far so good. I have SiR Rear brakes in the back and I don't feel I need more braking power. That's why I'm curious why you'd want the back?

What do you have in the front?

I've got the fastbrakes 11" 'SpecR' front upgrade(I love it) and was thinking about doing the rear kit as well, but its probably not really needed and may not make that much of a difference anyways, I'll probably just save my money

You guys with front upgrades, have you had any problems with brake balance?

No probs here with brake balance, but the fronts do exert more braking force now, I dont notice any probs or too much added brake dive though(only when really getting on them), but I can lock up the fronts pretty quickly when the ABS if disengaged. The larger rear rotor upgrade that Brian at FB offers might just 'balance' this out a bit more, so this is why I may get it, but only really needed when really getting on the brakes(aka, when I do more track events), its fine for the street now though.

I've got the FB 11" kit with the Wilwood SuperLite IIA calipers (not the same ones seen in the pic above... mine are physically larger). Brake balance is definitely more in the front... I used to be able to threshold brake the rear brakes in medium-steep downhill sections while trail braking (it's confusing; read it a few times; it'll make sense) on the stock brake setup (disc/drum setup on a 99 EX Coupe). Now I can't get the rears to do that anymore. However, fade resistance is a lot higher, as well as a firmer brake pedal. Threshold braking is a lot easier now, as I never had ABS.

Curious, why are you guys only upgrading the fronts? Is the performance of upgraded rears just insufficient to justify their cost?

Hey - I've got a stupid question... why are you upgrading your brakes? Just to improve stopping distance? Or is there a performance reason, like you can go faster into a turn and start slowing later?

How do I know if a brake upgrade would benefit me? What kind of brakes can I fit into 15" Stock Integra LS mesh wheels? Do these have painted calipers, or is that something else?

Thanks,
And Sorry I Seem To Be On A Stupid Question Spree Tonight,
Ben

more stopping power = later braking for a corner. More importantly, they are more resistant to fading. I can't decide for you if you need them, but I would not personally invest them unless I started tracking my car, the only time you're likely to experience brake fade.

What does brake fade feel like? You keep pressing the pedal but they start to not slow you anymore? Just a guess - don't think I've ever experienced it.

Let me know,
Ben

Your brakes will loose effectiveness. You'll have to apply more pedal pressure to slow down. Brake fade is the result of brakes overheating from heavy use. I experienced it on the street once, because I was driving like an idiot.

damn i was going to order fastbrakes 11inch kit with the willwoods, but they wouldnt fit under my 15inch rotas so i had to settle for stock teg calipers on 11inch rotors with ebc green pads, though this will probally be fairly ballanced setup with my teg rear calipers and sloted rotors with stock pads and of course ss lines all around

btw this is all in a 93 hatch

here's a question, how about rotor diameter??? beneficial? or not? seems like upgrading to larger rotors has some effects

i'm trying to see if a gsr brake swap would do me good(front and rear)

Larger diameter will help with the amount of brake torque possible.

I ran 11" 2 pc Fastbrakes up front and the big rear upgrade after a few months.

it noticibly reduced nosedive under heavy braking.. track/autox conditions.

without a front upgrade, there is no need for the rear upgrade.

most cars (hatches especially) will brake much better even with just a front upgrade to 11" rotors and ITR calipers... while leaving the rears stock, even if they are drums.

I've got the Fastbrakes ITR spec fronts and "big" rear brakes on my '95 del Sol VTEC. I initially ran with just the front upgrade with stock Accord Wagon front pads and stock del Sol VTEC pads rear, but was experiencing premature ABS actuation. Specifically, attempted threshold braking would cause the fronts to want to lock before the rears, kicking in the ABS. After I put the larger rear disk kit on the car, and switched pads to Axxis Ultimates, the brake proportioning was much better.

I'm putting the del Sol VTEC front brakes on my '92 Civic Si this weekend, providing my new rotors come in today. I've already installed a 15/16"s Integra MC and 'teg front knuckles on the car, and have a fresh set of Axxis Ultimates.
