Default head gasket question

does the block have to be completely clean of the head gasket before i put the new one on? cause i got most of it off but its still a little black i just dont wana scratch it no more

what kinda grit would be good to use? i would use the drill but im poor haha

don't use sandpaper, you will take more off on some spots than others......the best way is just to use a scraper and hand scrap it off......it might take a lil work but its was safer than using sandpaper....the surface needs to be dry and cleaned of any oil residue.....if you do this, there shouldn't be any problems.

I used a razor blade and mine came out pretty clean. Don't sand it, they make gasket remover

gasket remover doesn't work for **** on old composite type gaskets. ask me how i know lol. an angle air grinder at a low speed with a high grit pad takes off this type of hg material with ease. you would have to really grind the almighty hell out of a particular area to actually affect the new hg sealing properly.

yeah i agree that gasket remover doesn't work well with the old composite gaskets
