Default intermediate shaft + axles length

i have a B20vtec with a cable LS trans going into an 85 prelude. this has been a very long term project and am getting back to working on it some again.
and as it turns out i completely missed checking the space at the back of the block. these all come with intermediate shafts and therefore have no space for an axle housing at the tranny.

so now it comes down to some serious grinding/shaping or an apparent miracle with a combination that fits the length i need.

i have a male end intermediate shaft that is 16" tip to tip. my full length axle i was going to use is 36 7/8" 'ish.
i remember matching that up to a DA axle once and it looking very close. i just don't remember if any DA's had intermediates. and then of course if it would bolt to a B20.
i'm thinking i should go with whatever the 88-91 crx guys use. should be very similar dimensions.

anyone have any input on this they can help with?
