Default What would you pay? B18B

I have a high mileage 94 LS (225k miles) and found a B18B (includes the ecu, wiring and intake manifold, and auto trans) from a 2000 LS with just over 100k miles on it. He's asking $650. Any opinions on which OBD to run? II or stick with my OBDI?

i'd pay no more than $500 the most(seeing as how hmotors and similar sites sell warranteed motors for $550 and up) and if ur going ls/vtec, stick with obd1, from what I hear, its a whole lot easier to work with when it comes to mods(concerning smog) and chipped ecu's and such.

Yeah, I got my 30k mile B20 from Hmotors for 750 and this schmuck wants 650. Its almost laughable. Well, he is providing a tranny so hmmm I suppose its debateable..

Edit: Oh and I would definately stick to obd1, definately...

Thanks for all the replies. Do you think offering him 450 would be lowballing? I just don't see too many people jumping on his offer and with over 100k on his motor and not being able to run a compression test. Header, ps pump, and the ac compressor are not included (sold to someone) so maybe even throwing 400 out there?

That's where I found this guy. Not much to choose from in Florida. Don't think anyone would be willing to ship (nor do I think I would pay unless the price was right) outside of Florida.

jdm engines corp in texas or, there's another jdm importer in new york that have good reputations and are going to be a little cheaper to ship since they are closer.

Bought my B20b from Japanese star motor for $550.00 shipped with 35,000 miles on it. Got it in 5 business days and it was perfect when I got it. Wouldn't pay that much for an LS engine with that kind of mileage. As far as the obd1 or obd2, it doesn't matter if you are putting it in a obd1 car. Obd2 motors are generally lower mileage motors in better shape than obd1 motors.

u can, its just not called a scanner. its a paper clip and a flashing light on the dash, then you get all the codes by counting the flashes

the only problem with b20s is if they will pass in your state and also tuning them. i have no clue how far off the stock ls map would be on one. it's almost certainly lean on top

good price considering that it comes with tranny, ecu, and harness. also, is your car auto? if not just get the engine.

some of those stuff are interchangable from your old motor.

Yes my car is auto. (I know, no jokes please...) On Japanese Star Motors, their prices have certainly gone up ($850 for B18B, engine only). I think I'm going to consider picking up this motor. Gonna throw out $500 dollar offer and sell the ECU and harness and see where I stand. Any one have any clue how I would check the condition of this motor without it running other than a visual inspection?

if they are a decent vendor they should compression test. i know jdm engines corp does. they tested the itr engine they sold me before it shipped. not really sure why you would pay $150 more from japan star but it's you're money

Because this guy isn't a vendor and I kind of have to go by what he "says" the mileage is. Motor looks clean, but not sure else how to check it after the motor has been pulled from the car.

there is no way. as far as i know only hmotors gets front clips. most of the other jdm shops just buy crates of motors and compression test.
