CAI vs. SRIw/ Velocity stack
Ok well i just bought a CAI about 2 days ago. Its nice.(i guess). And today i went to my homies house and we decided to try his velocity stack on my car. I was originally gonna try one in CAI form. But since my CAI is a 2 piece. I decided to make it a SRI. So i slapped the stack on the SRI and..(my butt dyno can fail) it felt way better than my CAI. Atleast torque wise. It revved fast as hell. As opposed to my CAI, i can floor it all the way in and i can feel some restriction even as i press in the pedal. I had a SRIw/stack before but it was on a GSR swapped ek. Now im back to my D16..LoL. Im planning to supercharge in the future. Maybe a couple of months from now. But my debate now is wether i should buy a stack and make my CAI into a SRIw/stack. Any opinions, flames etc.. are welcomed. LoL.
P.S i was gonna try putting a stack in CAI form but the CAI has no brackets. Therefore i was paronoid the weight of the filter can make the piping come loose.

From: TRILLINOIS....WAY downtown, jerky.
The throttle response with a SRI is better than a CAI usually.
The problem with SRIs is the heat soak. The SRI makes more noise...so it may feel faster because of that. Or because your old filter was dirty and the new velocity stack is clean.
My EM1 feels a lot faster with the CAI than the SRI. Infact, it definately is faster with the CAI.
My friend has a AEM CAI with a velocity stack. He made it fit somehow.
I think with a supercharger, the CAI will work especially well. The denser the charge going into the blower the better.

Well actually the CAI is newer. The Stack filter is old and dirty. But when i floored it i just saw the Revs go high fast. With the CAI it takes a while. I can probably fit a Stack on the CAI. But since my CAI has no support brackets, im kind of paranoid it may come apart or something.
Well...I just made my CAI into a SRI. And let me say I love it. I hate the lag the CAI has. I rather have torque over hp any day on a D series. I will order my stack and filter either 2morow or sometime next week. SRI=FTW
i think the answer here is pretty apparent.... a velocity stack will yeild more power than a filter with no velocity stack.... your CIA with filter... is less desirable cuz slower throttle response cuz its a longer tube, and slower air flow due to no velocity stack.
the SRI you made, has higher throttle response, and a higher air velocity rate which yeilds more power since you have a velocity stack on it.

Pretty much its better i guess. Ill try to take pics later. Ill borow the filter of my friend. Since i havent purchased one yet. Im going to though
It's no fluke, it is faster.

As you can see from his results, a gain of almost 14whp OVER what he gained from the AEM CAI originally. Also incredibly a gain of almost 12 ft. lbs. of torque, again over the original gain from the AEM.
And yet, when i recommend the ebay 3" SRI, Blox Velocity Stack (same as BPi but cheaper) and the K&N filter you spend about $100 you still get all the mad tyte JAYdeeEMMMM kids telling people to get carbon fiber whale penises instead.

Anyways i had that stack on a aem sri when i had my gsr swapped ek. And man that was GREAT. I just thought maybe i wouldnt see the same effects on a D series. But i guess i was wrong.
