Tranny wont shift!!!
ok, i bought my car a week ago, its a 1990 accord lx, 197,000 miles for $500 bucks, engine is great xcept for the relay not wrking sometimes, gna fix that soon. but my big concern is the tranny doesnt seem to shift out of 1st unless i go way up to 4000 rpm and let off the gas, then it engages 2nd 3rd and 4th but if u press the gass hard like to pass someone it just revs up and wen it comes back dwn it goes back to wtver gear it was in , sport shift does not wrk, cant manualy go to 2nd, i seen a lot of diff explinations for this, like the solenoids, so i got new ones (the upper and lower ), i also replaced the tcu/tcm just in case, i get no codes, tried that, ressetting, chnging fluid, still no thing.I heard it could be a stuck valve in the valve body, i dunno wut else do i chk for??

IF either this cable, or the spool valve it controls sticks; you will get this effect.
Make sure the cable is free to move.
If it appears to move freely I would:
Either have the transmission fluid changed (it may have to be done more than once) or have a low pressure flush done. Use Honda OEM Transmission Fluid only.
This will start dissolving the varnish that's built up in the tranny over the years and allow that valve to free up.

There is a cable which links the throttle mechanism between the throttle body and the transmission case. It's 'official' name is a "throttle pressure cable" (go figure), but a more accurate name would be "downshift cable" since it controls both shift points and commanded downshifts.

The formulations for engine oil and transmission fluids are different and you may end up damaging the internal seals (swell up / deteriorate).
BG trans flush comes to mind......

I've used Seaform and a corresponding GM product with good success on engines, but I have hesitated using it on Transmissions.
