wiring question. deck to speakers. should be easy...
so the motor in my crx is pulled right now but the sound system sounded retarded when i got the car. it has a really cool alpine deck. one that folds in and out. but it was wired up to a refurbished kenwood 4 channel amp. and the front 2 speakers were jensens, looked to be stock. and the rear 2 were more decent pioneer 3 way speaks. now i really couldnt figure out how whatever doofus wired the system, wired it. it didnt make any sense. the amp was the only thing plugged to the back of the deck. along with just the constant, power, and ground from the wiring harness. then 2 wires from the same side of the wiring harness were spliced to eachother (wtf?). anyways it worked before. the guy had the speaker wire for the rear speakers run back to the amp, the wire from the amp to the rear speakers. but you know all those wires that are color coded on the back of the deck? right front power, right front ground... etc? none of those were spliced. well i got rid of the amp and all its wires. i spliced the wires from the back of the deck to the harness for right front power, right front ground, and all the others. and the amp/sub wire connecters have nothing plugged in. the antenna is plugged in. so i plugged in the battery, put the key to the on and no sound. yes my volume is turned up to 20. i took one good speaker and went to each corner of the car, touch the wires both ways since they arent labeled to try and get sound. no sound. whats the deal? if i messed up with one splice by doing the wrong wires behind the deck would it throw off all four corners? idk what else to try to get sound out of this thing.
ere is what it sounds like to me. The person who installed the system ran the outputs directly to the rear speakers and used the existing wires that run to the deck. He then looped them behind the deck to go to the front speakers. basically he probably didn't have enough speaker wire to run behind the deck. So pull each speaker and connect to oem wiring then match those to the proper channels of the deck. Hope this helps
yeah i already did that. all speakers are removed. there is speaker wire poking out of each speaker hole. OEM wiring. freshly spliced. the deck is pulled out. i wired the harness to what i think is correct, matching colors basically. like i said i took one of the good speakers around to each corner, and tested for sound. what else could be wrong?
maybe the little silver box that is wired to the back of the deck? looks like something for an amp/sub. what is that thing? never seen it before. didnt have it on the previous system i installed in my jeep...

try hooking speakers directly to the deck to make sure the radio works. then if you have a multimeter check continuity from the radio harness to eack speaker hole. That way you see if there is a break in the wire somewhere
What is the model number of the Alpine HU, it is possible it has a feature where you can turn off the internal amp if using an off-board amp, [IC on/off].
Model number will be on the face plate. 94

no model # on the faceplate. or anywhere else visible for that matter. and i have the whole deck out. it is an older alpine. but it doesnt really have a face plate. when you turn the car off it waits 5 seconds the folds down and slides inside itself so it looks like nothing is there. pretty cool.
so i dont have a working MM. i even tested it on my battery, which has tons of juice in it. so i tried a speaker directy from the back of the deck. still no sound. WTF?
fcm suggested looking through your options on the hu in order to find the option that is for running an external amp. This option cuts power to speaker outputs and runs the output through the RCAs in order for an external amp to do the "work". This is most likely the reason you have no sound.
so i found the setup on my HU. apparently you hold the button labeled "F". haha. i flipped through looking for an option maybe labeled "internal ic"? or something like that. the subwoofer was on, so i turned that off. but i cant find any internal amp options. maybe iot just needs a new harness?
Do you know somebody with an amp that you could borrow and hook to the rcas and your speakers to see if it works?
If you knew the model number we could find out if it does have the option to turn the amp off. I think mine says amp cancel or something for that option.

i have an amp and the wiring. it worked with the amp but then i unplugged the amp and pulled the wiring. then rewired the harness because they didnt have any of the speakers wired to it. and boom no sound. so i know it works with an amp and i wish i could find the modelt number but i cant see one anywhere. its one of the x-over models. folds out and whatnot. dang i really need to find the model number lol.
Are you sure it is an Alpine HU, I have never seen an Alpine HU without a model number on the face plate/screen and on a sticker on the case, can you take a pix or two and post them.
Either your HU has an on/off feature for the internal amp or the internal amp is blown. 94

I know he doesn't. have a model number. But he see part of one. I was just stating that for a reference. Alpine only made 2 decks that the face slid into the radio like he is decribing.
Connecting to an External Amplifier
(CDA-7897 only)
When an external amplifier is connected, sound quality
can be improved by stopping the power supply of the
built-in amplifier. The power output is set to OFF by the
following procedure.
1 Press and hold the SETUP button for at least 3
seconds.
2 Press the f UP or g DN button to select "P-IC".
3 Press the BAND button to toggle the mode between PIC
ON and P-IC OFF.
If it is a CDA-7897 then the above is the way you turn the internal amp on/off.
If it is the CDA-7998R there is no internal amp.
Either way the model number is on the face plate, [upper right].
Come on 88CRXJ get us a model number or a pix. 94

if it doesnt have an internal amp i think ill just sell it on CL and then buy another deck, VS. buying another amp. definatley not putting that retarded kenwood back in there.
