Moonroof flying off?
I just picked up a 94 LS. I have a 95 EG SI hatch with moon roof. Twice the glass has delaminated from the frame while traveling about 120. I had a GSR in 96, but never had this problem....I didn't own the car that long. I was contemplating going with a RS roof as I'll be painting the car anyway. I'm not racing, but may pull an occasional track day. I don't want to have the problems I'm having with my hatch. I'll be swapping in my K20 and all the suspension, so I'm sure 120 should be no problem with the LS. I can get a used roof for about $300, hopefully with the liner intact and cut at the posts. Any thoughts? If I keep the roof I'll need a new glass as the one on the LS has a crack in it. Does the SI glass swap?
Thanks in advance.
Thanks in advance.
Thanks. I also want to know if any of the DC Integra owners have had issues with the moon roof coming unglued at high speed. Anyone, anyone, Bueller, anyone? Finally:

Just busting your chops. Thanks for both answers. Any other HT members have their roofs fly off? I was told the glass is held to the frame by two things: butyl and the rubber gasket the surrounds the frame and the glass. It always happened when the windows were rolled up....windows down, no problem.
No, no issues. Maybe the civic's is different (or non-oem) because I've got no issues at all throughout the years. Given I dont go 120 all that often, it does happen.

It's an OEM roof and glass. I put two used units in. I thought the first one was a freak accident. I have spoken to a local tuning shop for some input and they had heard of the Civics losing the glass just like I did. This was some time ago so I didn't bring up the Integras. It may have something to do with the roof line of the Integra being more of a bubble while the hatch runs back some distance before the air can even try to come back down. Maybe too much low pressure on the top of the hatch. Perhaps if I can locate a roof cheap enough I'll just swap it and never have to worry about it, I don't use it that much except winter time here in Florida. I also have a lighter car and no leaks to worry about. Thanks for all the input. Anyone have a wrecked RS or Type R they want to sell a roof off of?

If you continue to drive fast enough to have your moonroof fly out, you will have much more to worry about than a piece of glass. You will be fine though with the integra moon roof. You should swap the whole assembly out anyway if you plan on only racing this car. That assembly weighs a lot.
I don't do 120 or even 90 all that often, but the last thing I need is to have the roof fly off. Every once in a while I like some spirited driving.....usually about 3 a.m. on the interstate when I won't harm anyone but myself. I'm looking into swapping the roof for either an RS or Type R, thanks.

Sorry, I think your missing my point. The low pressure cavity that is caused by the hatchback is greater (more negative pressure a.k.a. 'lift' and/or suction) than that of the domed/slanted roof line of the Integra. Both times I lost the roof it was closed and both windows were closed......then I heard a wind noise as if the moon roof was not closed. I opened the sun shade just in time to watch the glass peel away from the frame. When the roof is opened the aerodynamics change dramatically.
Correct, on my Civic, but I just bought an Integra and I'm wondering if the Integra folks have ever had this problem as I might swap the roof now before I swap the motor, etc.
