Why do people have them?

 

What are they?

 

I have seen these in pictures of cars, like right by the tire, or in the rim. Also, hanging from rearview mirrors. All I know is that they are a japanese cartoon or something, and they are funny looking/cute to have.

Unless there is a cult following or something more, it seems the same to me as putting a spongebob in the same place, but obviously spongebob is years ago, and this seems within the past few years/more recent. I'm not sure if i'm just missing something.

They're kinda cute/cool looking, but I wouldn't want one because I feel like i may look like a tool if I didn't know much about them, but got one because they look cool.

So basically it is a trendy thing i take, and has nothing to do with the cars?

Just did some research and found out it's a Japanese TV station's maskot.
So sounds like another spongebob type of thing

 

i love domo my little group of friends call him the "touge monster".

 

its a funny little monster creature. I wouldnt hang one from my car but they are still badass looking.

 

Yes, Domo-kun is the mascot for NHK. They run 1-2 minute spots every so often featuring him and his weasel girlfriend, a bat family, and an older rabbit named "Usaji". Youtube probably has some of these spots of you search. For some inexplicable reason, last Halloween season, Target was all about Domo-kun...floored me.
