Itll jump around every now and then but wont stay on or be consistent. Anything I can do to make it work? Or find out why its not.

Your VSS might be shot and needs a new one. If that doesn't help, you need a new cluster or could be some other electrical issue.

The speedo censor is usually inside of the transmission its like 2-3 bolts and a wire clip.

Pull it out, chances are it is corroded and just needs cleaned.

False

If the VSS is the problem it throws a CEL. And cruise control won't work. No CEL and cruise works it's probably the cluster.

Things you should put in your first post

1) year of car
2) model of car
3) if there's a CEL

Find out what the CEL is for.

If it throws a CEL, chances are it might be the VSS but like TheMuffinMan said could be other stuff. I'd get the code checked out as well to see if it is the VSS.

So what happens if you dont have a CEL, your cruise & odometer/trip work and you replaced the cluster and it still does not work? Can the VSS be bad if there is no CEL? Im not left handed and I dont want to if I dont have to. Not to jack this mans thread.

- No CEL = Cluster 99% of the time
- The odometer/trip won't work if the speedo doesn't work
- VSS could be intermittent without a CEL I'm sure but generally speaking if there isn't a CEL it isn't the problem

I was asking because the speedo might work for 2 min a day or be all the way stuck behind the 0 peg for a week. Trip/odo never have stopped working(only had the car 8 days), so I bought another one. Stayed stuck @ 15mph. Would it matter if the cluster is not from your exact model car? Meaning I got a 2d lx(I believe) auto cluster and I own a 2d ex 5speed. Is it only if I just swap the speedo head over it will work? Oh Honda. I hope this is helping the OP as well btw. Thanks
