Default 2000 Civic Si hesitating after 4000rpms

About a week ago, my car didnt want to start. After a couple of times it finally turned on. Since then i've had problems getting it started when im doing a cold start. also when rpms are at around 4000 , it hesitates really bad. check spark plugs, wires, cap and rotor and they seem so be fine. there is no CEL. Please help this is getting really annoying

I remember a while back when i first did my swap I had bad hesitation problems as well. the car basically didnt want to go over 4k rpm. I also had no CEL. Long story short it turned out to be my O2 sensor. my setup is OBD1 so im to sure which one you should check but it might be worth looking into.

Do the spark plugs or contact points inside the distributor cap or on the rotor have any wear or corrosion? Have you resistance tested the plug wires?

Have you checked the ignition timing with a timing gun and the service connector jumped?

My started acting funny last week (99 Si) and I took the dizzy off and there was some white/gray corrosion looking stuff on the dizzy points. I sanded it down nice and clean and also a little block corrosion on the end of the rotor and now it works fine.

If that looks good move on to plugs and wires like they said. After that you might want to look into the dizzy itself.

Cool thanks for all the advice guys. Feel kinda stupid though. after doing all that, checking timing, plugs, and o2 sensor, i decided to check distributor again. found that the screw that holds the rotor in place wasn't even on there. it was stuck between some wires. put it back on and went for a spin. guess thats what it was hesitating at high rpms. the rotor was just slipping because it wasn't screwed on. Once again, thanks for all your help

+1

a data monitor will probably show a slow or non-responsive o2s. they can be bad without a mil
