Default y8 dizzy on z6 head HELP!!!

i just helped a buddy of mine swap a z6 head onto his y8 engine in a 98 civic ex. We are trying to use the dizzy from the y8. It seems to bolt up just fine using the top and front side bolts leaving the third one off cause it doesn't line up. Anyway, it works from what I can tell. It cranks but wont turn over. I've got cylinder one at TDC and the brush on the dizzy lined up with cylinder one on the cap but I cant figure out whats wrong. I put it back to TDC and lined it up again and now it's blowing the compression stroke every time it cranks. Dont know if any of this info is helpful enough but I really need to get this thing back on the road so any help would be great. Thanks guys.

i believe the z6 runs off of the distributor if i remember correctly. But the bottom end is still a y8 if so the crank position sensor should still be there. It should fire up.

My thoughts exactly... that's why I'm stumped. On startup it makes two full revolutions then miss fires on the third stroke on cylinder 1. I have to keep resetting the distributor and lining it up with cylinder 1 at TDC again. I don't get it. I followed the firing order diagram in my book and all the wires on the cap are correct as far as I know. The problem I had in the beginning is the guy I'm helping had already removed the distributor and cap from the distributor and wires on top of that before I did the head swap for him. So now I am starting from scratch so I am following the book as much as possible but it's not very helpful in the illustration department. I did as much research as I could online before asking you guys for help. I really don't understand whats going on with it. Any in-depth help would be greatly appreciated. I can answer any questions you might have about it to help me further. Thanks guys
