I have a 98 4-cyl that had to have the engine replaced recently. The new motor was advertised as:
2000 Engine Honda Accord -2.3L 4Cyl EX VTEC,VIN "3" ULEV SULEV

And it looks like this:


I've never seen a green plaque or whatever it is on a Honda motor before. Anyone care to clue me in?

 

its just green paint. thats how all 6th gen f23a4 (ulev) valve covers look.


which motor was in the car previously, the f23a1 or f23a4?

 

The old engine didn't have green paint...

 

Like the previous poster stated, 6th gen "ULEV" have the green paint on the valve cover.

Its just a Ultra Low Emission motor; thats why it has that green thingy on the VC. It has it all on the ULEV F23 motors.

 

They have a bigger processor in the ECU. Moniters induvidual fuel mixture from each cylinder. Rather than a combined mixture from all the cylinders. I think they have an extra cat as well. But Im not sure on that.

 

no just one cat ... it has a smaller exhaust manifold for sure ... a wideband oxygen sensor to run with that 32-bit ecu ... i forget what else ...
